To Create a Physical Item Using a Form

  1. Select File > New > Physical Item.

    The Physical Item form opens in the Content pane.

  2. Fill out the form as needed. The following fields are required: Number, Description, Units of Measure, Build or Buy
    SettingDescription
    Number A tracking number that uniquely identifies each physical item. Use the Auto Number icon to generate the next available number either from the Physical Item Mask defined in System Defaults or from a manually entered mask.
    Version The specific variant of the physical item. Note this field is mandatory when the physical item is declared to be a Configuration Item.
    Configuration Item This field indicates whether or not the item requires a formal process to update properties or parts lists. Parent items that have child items within a structured hierarchy must be identified as a Configuration Item (CI).
    Description Text detail describing the physical item. Normally referred to as the Item Short Description.
    Units of Measure Units of Measure are user definable and are meant to contain such measurement criteria as each, gallon, inches, and so on as required by the Enterprise. This is mainly used when generating a Bill-of-Materials.
    Build or Buy Indicates whether or not your organization designs, builds, and / or buys the item.
    Class This lookup presents a hierarchical classification structure that can be applied to the items for allocation of specific attributes and to facilitate item searching and browsing.
    Item Type Item Type is user definable containing Enterprise specific physical item types for broad categorization purposes.
    Approval Status Describes whether or not the physical item has been approved (released).
    Serialized This check box indicates whether or not the item has multiple instances, each with its own serial number. When the box is selected the item is deemed to have associated serialized items.
    Main Equipment Main Equipment is described as a physical item that is a standalone entity which performs an end function that achieves the objectives of a defined mission. This check box designates whether or not this particular physical item can be classified in this category. When the box is selected the item is assigned Main Equipment status.
    Software When this check box is selected the physical item database instance is representing a software item.
    Extended Description Lets you provide additional descriptive data about the item. It can also be used as a remarks field.
    Date Obsolete A date assigned to a physical item to indicate from which date onwards the item cannot be used anymore. AssetWise will warn users that the item is now obsolete and it will be regarded as Historic.
  3. Click the Add icon in the action bar.

    The physical item is created. You can now define additional relationships for the physical item. The information in the physical item Description field displays in a tab at the top of the Content pane.
